The Jukawalyi Story
Jukawalyi, pronounced Jooga-wal-yee, is an Aboriginal word from the Njamal language. The name was given to director Joanne Taylor by her mother, Jane Taylor.
This is her story about her lineage and ties to cattle farming:
This is her story about her lineage and ties to cattle farming:
My mother is a Njamal Traditional Elder, born at the Warragine Station in Njamal Country.
My grandmother, Daisy (Aboriginal name: Inyabung), was born at the Braeside Station in Njamal country.
My great grandmother, Dinah (Aboriginal name: Yaandibinya), was born on the banks of the Oakover River (Pupurinya) in Jukawalyi, near the old Warragine Station.
Across the generations, the family established their own independence despite the troubled times, through hard work and perseverance at the stations.
It’s with great honour that we feature the Jukawalyi name and the image of the cattle for our business. We vow to continue the strong work ethic and strategic investments that give respect to our elders, our people and country.
